If you have the qualifications and experience needed for acceptance on an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme and you complete it successfully, you will gain what is called "Qualified Teacher Status" (QTS). You need QTS to teach in maintained schools and non-maintained special schools in England and Wales. All ITT programmes leading to QTS will prepare you to meet the standards for: - professional requirements (such as your legal and professional responsibilities as a teacher).
- knowledge and understanding
- planning, teaching and class management; monitoring, assessment, recording, reporting and accountability.
In addition, ITT programmes follow the National Curriculum for Initial Teacher Training in England in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science (primary and secondary), and the use of ICT in all subject teaching. Similar arrangements exist in Wales. Most training providers use a range of assessment methods to ensure that you have reached the required standards. |
